I want to start by saying a year ago in January I attended a Boot Camp class with my daughter and we had to fill out a form with basic info and then what our fitness goal was. My goal was to
loose 20 pounds. There on the bottom of the page was one simple question...Would you ever like to start running? My answer was...NO WAY!!!!,I circled it,underlined it multiple times, and went over it two or three times so it was very bold and made sure that Melissa saw that there was no way in the world I was running unless someone was chasing me, of course they probably would catch me.
Well I decided after about 4 Boot Camp Sessions that I was going to use Melissa as my Personal Trainer to help me melt away the pounds even faster. I even got her to agree to sessions at 6:30 in the morning! We started my PT sessions in March, and she was definitley helping me lose pounds. Then in July I came to a screeching hault on weight lose. I had reached a point where I could not drop any weigh at all, so Melissa looked at me and said, I guess we gotta run to kick up the cardio. My eyes almost popped out of my head as I backed away from her in fear and told her to read my info sheet!
Low and behold the next PT session we are outside the studio and she is giving me instructions on the correct way to run. Then we are off, I am thinking well so much for never running and waiting for her to hit me with a okay let's move it and start sprinting. Little did I know not everyone sprints! Iam thinking WooHoo I can do this if we keep running at this pace. Well that lasted about 30 feet and I had to quit. So she kept on and eventually I could run a mile. Not gonna tell you my time, you would just laugh.
Well needless to say the next thing I know I am signed up for the Jay's Hope 5K (3.1 miles) on Halloween morning. Emmylou (my daughter) even decided to go with me. The race started and all of a sudden there are people all around me running and I just could not let them pass me by. I guess I got a runners high and an adreneline rush and found myself running the entire 1st mile without stopping. I think when I passed that 1 mile mark I was hooked. So much for never running, circled, underlined and in bold print.
Now I have two pairs of running shoes, lots of running clothes, a SPI belt, and just bought myself a running watch for my birthday. Who would have thunk it!
Since the Jay's Hope I have run 1 more 5K and improved my time by almost 3 minutes. I am signed up to run the Country Music 1/2 Marathon in Nasville on April 24th (that's 13.1miles, I'll let ya know how I do). The next goal...The Kona Marathon in Kona, Hawaii.
In two days I will be Forty and I guess when they say it is the new 30 they are right. I feel younger and better then I ever have. I found that running is good for the soul!
